Eek, Alaska : Along the west coast of Alaska, bound between the tundra and the Bering Sea, lies the tiny Yup'ik Eskimo village of Eek, Alaska (pop. 300--give or take). The permafrost may be melting (re: it is), but the school is alive and well (I have engaged in literacy projects with villages throughout this district for several years). Enjoy the photos I took in September of 2007 on my latest visit to the Lower Kuskokwim Delta. This is a delicate, harsh, amazing environment.

Hawaii--July 2007 : Kauai, also called "The Garden Island," may just have to be renamed "Lauren's future retirement villa." Really, this place was amazing--lush, tranquil, a feast for photographers. Sure, the heat was a bit much, but I'm willing to overlook that. This time.

Bangkok, Thailand : Far, far outside of my comfort zone (re: the reason I travel) lies Bangkok--a city I fell in love with instantly. The temples, the food, and the heat. Can't have one without the other...

Malaysia : Ah, Malaysia! We started on Penang Island, then took a (very rocky) ferry to Langkawi Island, before ending up in Kuala Lumpur. So much to see, so much heat...

Singapore : I made a "side trip" to Singapore to visit with my friend Ambika and her family. From Little India to Chinatown, Singapore had it all, yet felt more like "home" than any other stop on my journey. Maybe it was the lack of exhaust fumes...

Los Angeles, CA : Aside from the four hours that constituted the actual OSU/USC game, we had a wonderful trip to Southern California. From Beverly Hills to Hollywood, Santa Monica to Venice Beach, we saw it all in L.A. So, despite the big, big loss, the scenery was a definite winner! (And the Oscar goes to...)

Kwigillingok, Alaska : On my fourth trip to the Tundra, I got serious with the kids about documenting evidence of climate change in their village. From slanting houses to flora that didn't used to exist, the changes are quite apparent. Plus, you'll want to check out the price of a bag of chips...

San Diego: April 2009 : What a week! The order goes something like this: LegoLand, the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, The Hotel Del Coronado, and Old Town. San Diego was an amazing city--one that we will have to return to someday, as there's just too much to do in one trip...
